Torben Andersen
Bergmann Editions: score 6 pages
Danish – born Andersen is a guitar player /composer, who has dabbled in many different musical styles over the decades, so it is no surprise that this piece here is pleasant, and immediate in its musical vocabulary and at slightly less than 2 ½ minutes in length does not outstay its welcome.
Set in E minor, at a speed of 126 crotchets a minute it begins with the second guitar (who is constantly the accompanist here) playing a vaguely latinesque kind of two voiced accompaniment, using slightly altered E minor chords as its basis. Then at bar 5, the first guitar enters with the melody which is friendly and tuneful and not more than intermediate in its difficulty (as is the second guitar part too). A second theme appears at bar 21 which is in the same vein as the first theme, leading to a first ending and a repeat of the entire piece beginning at the point where the 1st guitar enters. After a second ending the last 6 bars are an outro for the second guitar only, which closes on two bars of harmonic notes.
The piece is nice, but generally unsurprising in its content, and so won’t suit every duo, but a pair of players who like their music, fun, not too difficult, and relatively uncomplicated, might really enjoy this little piece.
