Stephen Goss : Cocktail List for 2 guitars : Doberman – Yppan

Stephen Goss

Doberman – Yppan: Score and separate parts: (35, 17 and 20 pages respectively)

Here is an interesting concept from Stephen Goss, a writer whose music often has a very individual touch to it. Here he has written 12 miniatures, some only seconds long, and some as long as three minutes, each one named after a cocktail, the recipes for which he has also included in the book. The set was commissioned by the duo of Zoran Dukic, and Aniello Desiderio, whose YouTube performance is exception ally good and humorous and technically brilliant, and which is an ideal way to sample the music in this volume

Of course, as with much of this man’s music, it is advanced in every way, with the technical aspect of these little gems needed very good players indeed. That said, though, if you can cope with the fact that these pieces really don’t take any prisoners then they are hugely enjoyable.

There are a number of different styles of pieces here, from the Elgarian sounds that emanate from The Iron Lady, to the Cha Cha Cha of the Pina Colada, that occurs in the score in two version, one written with a capo at the 7th fret, and one transposed so that a capo is not needed. We also get a Blues, a Choro, a Stomp, an Aria and even a Funk piece. But generally every piece is vastly different

This is a fun set, definitely not for the average players amongst you, but given that you are a really talented duo, then you and your audience will have great fun with it!
