Back in November of last year I reviewed on my site the second album of the Bach English Suites (Nos 4 to 6) as arranged and performed by this duo, and was disappointed that I hadn’t seen or heard about the first volume .Well, here it is and it is every bit as satisfyingly brilliant as the other. The players produce an extremely clear and satisfyingly accurate arrangement of these huge works that fit so well onto 2 guitars with so little changing done to the original keyboard pieces that listeners will be completely surprised.
Nothing sounds out of place, as unlike a lot of Bach’s other pieces that literally have too much going on to ever fit onto 2 guitars, these, and their companion pieces the 6 French Suites sit so well onto the guitars.
Of course they are definitely not easy to play, far from it, but that doesn’t challenge our two players who fit into the Bach style without any trouble at all and produce new versions of these pieces that everyone who loves Bach should spend some time listening to, as they really do deserve to be appreciated by all music lovers, whether they normally like guitar music or not. This is one for all music lovers to search out and buy!
