The first thing that any player of this composer’s music should realise that it is always melodic, memorable, fun to play, and not too difficult, so it works for many players of our instrument.
Set in Dm at the opening, with a dropped D 6th, it begins with a descending bass line that then is varied slightly before the actual theme occurs, which is gentle, and friendly, moving around in a harmonious way before a pause leads to a change to D Major which is a variation of the main theme before. A Pause at the end of this section leads to a new Bm idea in a tremolo style, after which a delicate waltz takes over in the same key. This moves around more than the previous ideas but is still not too difficult to get your hands around.
Then the original key heralds in the theme, as it was at the start, and everything closes on a prefect cadence in Dm.
This is a lovely piece of writing that many will enjoy, and for which you need a moderately good technique to make it work as a piece.
