Arranged by Jason Noble, Edited by Steve Cowan
Les Productions D’Oz: 4 pages
The first thing to say is that the folk melodies arranged by Jason Noble are gorgeous and well worth hearing. The next thing is that there are only 23 pages of music, one for each piece, the rest is Preface material.
The first piece River Driver is marked Solemnly and is in C Major as a 6/8.The main thing I noticed about the arrangement is that there are a few large stretches that do take some playing, and that, until you get them safely under your fingers, are difficult to achieve smoothly. It is in three main voices and , when mastered , is a lovely piece .
The second piece has a fifth string to G and a 6th string to a low C, which, I must admit is a bit of a stretch, personally speaking! This is again in 6/8 but in G Major, with, again, a few large stretches and a lot of chords that need some work getting nicely under your fingers, but nevertheless this is also a lovely piece that many will enjoy.
So in summation these are lovely folk songs arranged nicely but in a few places requiring some work to actually get them to sound trouble free, but if the idea of Newfoundland folk songs appeals, then these pieces will.
