J.S. Bach arranged Hans Ovesen
Bergmann Edition Score and separate parts (24, 8, 8, and 8 pages respectively)
This work by Bach is a little problematical, simply because although the Urtext is in three movements, Vivace, Largo e Dolce, and Allegro, 46 bars of the first movement are either illegible or missing completely. This resulted in Hans Ovesen disregarding this first movement in this otherwise fine version for three guitars.
So the (now) opening Largo e Dolce is beautifully arranged, sounding wonderful and very natural for guitars, and of course, being a work by Bach, all three performers are kept constantly busy in what they have to play.
The final movement, the strong and very happy Allegro is a superb closing movement quite extensive in length, and really does motor along in all three parts without any real places where one can momentarily relax.
As it now stands the two movements do work really well together and therefore, providing you are a trio with very decent techniques, you will no doubt love to get your hands on this fine arrangement.
