This lady’s pieces are always utterly original in sound, and like absolutely nothing else you may have heard. Here she has written a piece apparently for someone’s Halloween event last October, and the title certainly should give it away as to exactly what you might be expecting.
There are a number of special effects that Annette uses, starting with a bar, that you are instructed to make last for about 5 seconds, consisting of a long scratch of the fingernail along string 5.After this the intention in the music is to sound as bizarre, and frightening as possible, and therefore everything you play is a dissonance of some sort, with many places where the notes/chords are to be accented and staccato and therefore there are plenty of minor seconds for starters. A new Poco Piu Mosso section alternates solo notes with unusual three note chords, again highly accented throughout, after which you are instructed to fast tap with the side of a pen, or a tuning fork on string 1 between frets 12 – to 15, and then continue that with a left hand only set of hammer – ons and pull – offs on the 6th string whilst doing the fast tapping on string one above. Further examples include some scratching with your fingernail, to sound like a witch laughing.
In-between the piece is most definitely cartoon like in its emotions. Don’t expect any real melodic themes because they are not there, but however if you are going to have a Halloween event, or are about to entertain some children, with anything that might involve stories about withes , or the suchlike, then this cleverly written piece is going to add a great deal to the event.
