Alfonso Montes
Doberman – Yppan: 8 pages
This latest piece by Alfonso Montes is a tremolo piece with a difference. Originally planned during the Iserlohn Guitar Festival in Germany whilst talking to Scott Tennant, he decided to write some tremolo works. Normally a tremolo piece is merely a bass line and repeated notes on the treble, but this time Montes decided to adapt that formula by making the top voice, two notes not one. It is very useful for the right hand technique and as the performance on YouTube by his wife Irina Kircher shows, it moves very quickly and nevertheless is a lovely sounding piece of music when your technique is up to the challenge.
The title means ‘flowering’ and the colours that fly from the piece are very melodic and there is enough variety in the piece to make it a definite must for lovers of this style.
This is definitely one of the better tremolo pieces I have seen, and is worth getting a look at!
